Notwithstanding the existence of a few dictionaries pertaining to Indian mythology, modern studies on this subject as a separate discipline have called forth the necessity of bringing out a fresh volume on the same with new orientation and interpretation. The present volume shows that in ancient belief myth was not merely a symbolic narrative but a theme of conscious reflection of social reality. The entries of this volume have been carefully selected and prepared with necessary references so that it may serve as a vade-mecum for the students, researchers, teachers and educated laymen as also for those who often grope in the dark to have a quick reference.
