Crystallised in its celebrated apogee at Amaravathi in a refulgent national expression, Andhra Sculpture was proliferated by the Satavahana monarchs for some 450 years from 271 B.C. In their extensive dominions they reared a resplendent arc of Buddhist monuments, all the way from the gateways of the great Stupa at Sanchi to their capital of Dhanyakataka by the river Krishna on the eastern seaboard of the Bay of Bengal.454 plates of Andhra Sculpture are projected in this book, besides numerous line drawings and designs, in a sumptuous survey.
