Blossoms of Friendship introduces the Yoga Wisdom Classics series from
Rodmell Press. This book is a collection of talks given by Vimala Thakar, in
1973, in Mount Abu, India. In the style of Krishnamurti, she describes the
subtle differences between the states of concentration, attention, awareness,
and meditation, and discusses the roles of guide, teacher, master, and guru.
In the "Foreword," publisher Donald Moyer writes that Vimala Thakar's insights "provide a clear exegesis of the last three stages of the eightfold yogic path: dharana, dhyana, and samadhi. For students who wish to deepen their understanding of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, these talks will be especially welcome."
About the Author:
Born in India, Vimala Thakar began her spiritual search at the tender age of five. As a young woman, she traveled and lectured for the Land Gift Movement of Vinoba Bhave, an associate of Mahatma Gandhi. She stopped traveling outside of India in 1991, and now resides in Mount Abu, in Rajasthan, where she meets with people from... read more
Review:
Vimala Thakar's Blossom of Friendship is an extraordinary
roadmap of the mind that will be of interest to anyone who is serious about the
practice of meditation. With the precision of a physicist, Thakar reveals the
distinct layers of the mind in a refreshingly original, yet accessible, manner.
Through these talks, she firmly places herself in the league of iconoclastic
spiritual teachers, such as the late Krishnamurti." - Donna Farhi, author of
Bringing Yoga to Life and Yoga Mind, Body, and Spirit
"Blossoms of Friendship captures the timelessness of Vimala Thakar's
discourses and presents each one as a savory treat. My favorite is Chapter Five,
"The Silence of Meditation," which clearly reminds us of the power, even the
necessity, of spiritual practice in today's world." - Judith Lasater, Ph.D.,
