January 5th marks a day to remember around the world. This is the solar birthday of Parmahamsa Yogananda who was one of India's living Masters bringing the eternal wisdom of our Highest Self through his beautiful teachings. He is most renowned for his beautiful biography entitled Autobiography of a Yogi but he has also authored many other books that are nothing short of treasures to keep. Yogananda's teacher was Swami Sri Yukteswar. He authored just one book that has been published called The Holy Science. One of the most renowned features of this book is that it clearly explains the Vedic view on world ages and gives a clear understanding into the general context of the world we are presently living in from a cosmological perspective.
THE FOREVER PATH TO PEACE
The world we live in seems to be a troubled place at times. The media brings us images of dramatic events in every corner. No-one is spared of violence. There is violence in schools, with children, violence is there in the heart of our cities and towns. Sometimes without warning it raises a blaze through our world. Just when we thought everything was at peace, again there are more nations at war, tribes in the battleground.
When we identify with our physical identity, we are associated with our religion or our nation but when we are aware of the simple fact that we are a soul, within us is pure consciousness, a divine spark, these identifications fast loose all meaning.
Every single person, animal and creature in this world becomes your family. In Sanksrit they say the whole world is my family. This is the truth, family is not just father, mother, son, daughter, family is everyone around and all the living beings (animals too!) in this creation.
When our children learn who they are, that they are souls, immortal souls, that they are loving children of one God that is the same God present everywhere and forever, there can be no more violence from that point on. This month we devote our mainpage to children and to education. May all children of the world share this wisdom and walk in the inner light of their own inner peace. May they become the road to peace...
THE PARLIAMENT OF WORLD RELIGIONS
Every five years something quite magical happens on planet Earth. Our Vedic Books team was happy to attend this event in Cape Town, South Africa in the year 1999. 5 years later it was in Barcelona and next year it will be in Melbourne. It is an epic event of spiritual leaders from every tradition and every corner of Mother Earth coming together to share common ground, to share the common truth that is at the very core of us all. In 1999 so many great teachers came from all parts of the globe. Dada Vaswani was there with folded hands, Swami Dayananda Saraswati was sharing the beautiful wisdom of Advaita with all who heard. Rabbis were singing devotional prayers alongside Sufi's. Everyone was celebrating the love and truth that are eternally within. Our own editors who attended felt as if all was floating a little off the ground for the period of the event. TRY JYOTISH FOR A BLISSFULL MARRIAGE
Did you know that more than 50% of marriages today end in divorce. There is something very wrong with a society at it's very root when the very union between masculine and feminine which comes together to produce harmony and offspring, is not able to hold this union for more than a few years. Marriage is the union of two souls. We are all part of the greater expression of God but in our lifetime we two cometogether, one embodying the masculine, solar principal of Shiva and the other the feminine, nourishing, lunar principal of Shakthi. When Shiva-Shakthi merges we get creation, we get harmony, we get evolution. So where does it go wrong ?
It goes wrong in the field of the mind. The mind is our personal cinematic director of our experience of the world. So what can be done ? Jyotish is there and has been there for thousands of years and has been used as a super tool for matching people based on the makeup and tendencies of the mind. If you are planning to settle and marry, consult a jyotish. Even if you are not 100% compatible, you can become aware of the issues that might arise so deal with them with full awareness. If this knowledge of the Rishis is applied more today, there will be less divorce, more happy children and more peace in the world.

It is not every day we get to see our books being read in Antarctica and we're proud to share with you that a small parcel of our books is presently being read avidly in the South African base camp of Antarctica. Anton who is pictured here very kindly sent us a picture of him in the snow, not too far from the south pole.
