Grammar of Arabic Language |
|
|
| On being elected to the chair of professor of Arabic in Hugli College, I found that the want of an Arabic elementary grammar was greatly felt by the Arabic students of the Calcutta University. Therefore, I compiled such a grammar as I thought was needed in the Urdu language and modeled it on the concise & simple plan of European grammars. Encouraged by the success of the above compilation I have been induced to publish an Arabic grammar in English, the language in which University Examinations... |

An Analysis of the Chinese Language: An Etymological Approach, Volume 1 (Words) |
$4.95 $3.47 |
|
| The author says, "Chinese has neither an alphabet nor any written grammar. In fact everything about it is different. Yet no one can deny that it is a language of high culture with a history of nearly 5,000 years, and it is a living one still. Let us then sensibly ask: could it have lasted so long and been so widely used if it were actually so difficult to learn?"
This book introduces the Chinese pictorial script. Indicatives, pictographs, ideatives and harmonics are discussed at length.... |

Pali Primer |
$4.99 $3.49 |
|
| The Pali Primer is a good introduction for non-academic Pali students. The pace is good, with lots of examples. It is light on the technical background of the language and so leaves the student with gaps in terms of morphology and some of the more obscure usages, so perhaps having Warder, or a full Pali grammar to refer to would be advantageous. I like Gair and Karunatillake as a reference as well. |

A Sanskrit Manual For High Schools Part 1 For Classes 6 - 8 |

| From the Preface: The purpose of this Manual is not to give an exhaustive treatment of Sanskrit grammar. It is meant as a practical method of teaching and learning Sanskrit through the medium of English. Its composition is based on the two following principles : The effort of memory which the study of languages demands becomes a mere drudgery when its rational usefulness is not clearly shown and immediately given practical scope. An instrument, however... |

From Indus to Sanskrit (Vol I) |
$6.49 $4.54 |
|
| This is the first real attempt to decipher the Indus script. In this first part, nearly twenty lines of the texts have been deciphered and interpreted after a full discussion about the type of the Indus language and its relation with Sanskrit. The Indus language belongs to the so called agglutinative type consisting mostly of monosyllabic words. After a stupendously long history of ups and downs, only faintly known to the Vedic seer Dirghatamas, it evolved as accented inflexional Sanskrit,... |
