The present work Dictionary of Pali Proper Names is a magnum opus of Malalasekera, in two volumes.
It is a dedicated work of meticulous scholarship which can be seen from the extensive references from the Pali cononical and non-cononical literature and the vast number of entries on the proper names.
As the Pali Text Society began issuing editions and translations of the Pali Canon and Commentaries in quick succession, Rhys Davids conceived the idea of the compilation of an exhaustive dictionary of Pali, based on the voluminous basic material that was being brought to light.
The work took more than twenty years of devoted labour, but before his death in 1992, Rhys Davids had the satisfaction of seeing its first volume published. In four volumes, issued over 1921-24, the Dictionary...

This publication was then considered a notable event in the life of the Society, for it was a great improvement on a similar earlier work by Venerable W. The Pali Primer is a good introduction for non-academic Pali students. The pace is good, with lots of examples. It is light on the technical background of the language and so leaves the student with gaps in terms of morphology and some of the more obscure usages, so perhaps having Warder, or a full Pali grammar to refer to would be advantageous. I like Gair and Karunatillake as a reference as well.
