This work on Lord Ganesha is a valuable contribution to the contemporary literature of the Smartas, Vaishnavas, Shaaktas, Shaivites and Gaanapatyas--in general, all Hindus--and will be especially useful to followers of Smarta tradition. The Smarta Sampradaya has been propagated outside of India primarily through its philosophy of Advaita Vedanta. This work serves to also introduce English-reading non-Hindus to the religious perspective, mythology and puranic theism of this sect of Hinduism.
