Medicinal Plants, as the name implies, proposes to give its readers full and authoritative information on the entier circle of Medicinal Plants. The number of species figured is 306, but many more are alluded to in the text. A systematic list of plants figured and described is given at the commencement of the book, from which it is seen that they represent 89 natural families and 233 genera, thus affording examples of all the parts of the vegetable.

The text of each plant is divided into two portions; the first portion devoted to the description of the species, its localities, and other purely botanical matter; the second portion devoted to the general characters, composition, properties, and uses of it sparts or products which are employed in medicine or otherwise.
