The central thesis of Sankara`s Advaita Vedanta is embodied in the unique doctrine of Pure Consciousness. But the authentic significance of the latter is often overlooked in the stereotype of a metaphysics of Brahman combined with an illusionistic philosophy of the world.
The present work offers a fresh approach of interpretive understanding of the pivotal conception of Cit and its orientation in an in depth critique of experience. Drawing thoroughly on the major and relevantly significant texts of Advaita literature the metaphysical and epistemological strands of sankara and post sankara vedanta are posed under the focus of cit problematic and reexamined and reinterpreted accordingly.

Debabrata Sinha has his Master`s and Ph.D. in philosophy from University of Calcutta taught philosophy at Presidency College (Calcutta) and Post-graduate department of Philosophy Calcutta University. He is visiting Professor (Philosophy) University of Mainz (Germany) and professor of Philosophy since 1974 in Brock University Canada.His major areas of special interest and contribution are Vedanta (and related Indian Philosophy) phenomenology hermeneutics and philosophical anthropology. He has authored a number of books and a large number of articles and papers.
