The Panchakarma Treatment of Ayurveda

Panchakarma is a collective expression for the cleansing of physical constitution, is one of the major method of internal medicine in Ayurveda. The Panchakarma treatments are restored to when the normal pacification treatment fails to correct the disturbed doshas. This line of treatment has five major procedures namely emesis; purgation; evacuation by enema; unctuous emema; and erhine therapy. This is also the order in which the treatment is carried out. But before emesis, it is advisable to administer to the patient two preoperative treatments; oleation and sudation.

The present book encompasses all these procedures of Panchkarma system.

About the Author:

Professor T.L. Devaraj, a Post-Graduate Degree holder in Ayurveda from Banaras Hindu University, served as a lecturer, Assistant Professor and Professor of Ayurveda. At present, Prof. Devaraj is working as Professor and Head of the Department of Post-graduate Studies (M.D.) in Shalya Tantra at G.C.I.M., Bangalore. He is a member of the Board of Studies in Ayurveda for Bangalore and Mysore universities. Besides being an academician, he is practising physician and examiner for different subjects of Ayurveda in several universities in India. He has to his credit 30 books on Ayurveda, and his books are translated to Russian, Spain, and Japan.

His books are exported 4000 copies to Russia and Spain. His books went into several editions. Out of which three have been recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine for degree courses. This book, Ayurveda for Perfect Health, is his 22nd book in which he has explained the basic concepts of Ayurveda and its golden rule of healthy body and mind to promote perfect health. He has been awarded an international award and honoured for his outstanding contribution to Ayurveda by His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sharda Peetam. The title Ayurveda Bhaskara was awarded to him by Shri B.D. Jatti, the former Vice-President.
