First of the series of Reviews on Indian Medicinal Plants comprising 60 plant genera comprising 223 species from Abelmoschus - Allemanda. The monographs cover largely the studies on Indian Medicinal Plants conducted by scientists in Indian Institutions and published in National and International Journals. At places work done by Indian scientists in collaboration with foreign laboratories or carried out exclusively in foreign laboratories has also been covered. Citations of foreign scientists and the work carried out abroad have been made wherever it was found relevant to the text.

Plants imported in India have not been included. The plants Achras zapota and Agati species have not been included due to change of nomenclature status of the plant species to Manilkara zapota and Sesbania species, respectively. The sources of information included survey of published literature including primary, secondary and tertiary sources, besides the literature made available by various scientists, academicians, medical colleges, research institutions and universities involved in activities related to medicinal plants/indigenous system of medicine.

The monographs contain a wide spectrum of information under major heads viz., general information, pharmacognostic, chemical, pharmacological/biological, clinical and toxicological studies with complete references of the work cited. Some additional references, which could be of relevance, have also been included. Colour photographs of important plants, which could be procured from different sources, have also been incorporated. At the end are given various appendices and indices.

The present volume is the Second of the series of Reviews on Indian Medicinal Plants comprising 56 plant genera comprising 206 species from Allium - Ardisia. The monographs cover largely the studies on Indian medicinal plants conducted by scientists in Indian institutions and published in national and international journals. At places work done by Indian scientists in collaboration with foreign laboratories or carried out exclusively in foreign laboratories has also been covered. Citations of foreign scientists and the work carried out abroad have been made wherever it was found relevant to the text. Plants imported in India have not been included.

The sources of information included survey of published literature including primary, secondary and tertiary sources, besides the literature made available by various scientists, academicians, medical colleges, research institutions and universities involved in activities related to medicinal plants/indigenous system of medicine. The present volume is the Third of the series of Reviews on Indian Medicinal Plants comprising 33 plant genera comprising 163 species from Areca - Azima. The Monographs cover largely the studies on Indian medicinal plants conducted by scientists in Indian institutions and published in national and international journals. At places work done by Indian scientists in collaboration with foreign laboratories or carried out exclusively in foreign laboratories has also been covered. Citations of foreign scientists and the work carried out abroad have been made wherever it was found relevant to the text. Plants imported in India have not been included except Arnebia nobilis, which has been mentioned because of comparison with Arnebia euchroma.

The plants Aspidium falcatum, A. filix-max, Asagraca species and Asteracantha auriculata have not been included due to transfer of the plant species to Cryptomium falcatum, Dryopteris filix max, Schoenocaulon species and Hygrophila auriculata, respectively. The sources of information included survey of published literature including primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, besides the literature made available by various scientists, academicians, medical colleges, research institutions and universities involved in activities related to medicinal plants/Indigenous System of Medicine. The Monographs contain a wide spectrum of information under major heads viz., general information, pharmacognostic, chemical, pharmacological/biological, clinical and toxicological studies with complete references of the work cited. Some additional references, which could be of relevance, have also been included. Colour photographs of important plants, which could be procured from different sources, have also been incorporated. At the end are given various Appendices and Indices.

Extensive search has been made for relevant literature from primary, secondary and tertiary sources, as well as by contacting various universities, medical institutions and individual researchers involved in activities related to medicinal plants. The Monograph on each plant includes regional names, habit and habitat, Ayurvedic description (wherever available), Sanskrit synonyms, uses ascribed, ethnobotanical studies, the details of botanical, pharmacognostic, chemical, pharmacological/biological, clinical and toxicological aspects backed by complete references on each aspect of the information cited. Coloured photographs of some important medicinal plants have also been included. The available literature information is enormous and a total number of 274 plant species with 2276 references under alphabet 'B' (as per botanical names) are covered in this volume.

About the Author:

Mr. Ashok Kumar Gupta (b. 1982) after obtaining M.A. (Political Science and Public Administration) and M.Phil. Started his Academic career as lecturer in the P.G. Deptt. of Political Science, Rajindra Government College, Bhatinda (Punjab) Currency he is heading the Department of Political Science. M.L.S.M. College, Sunder Nagar, Distt. Mandi (H.P.).
