Aesthetics of Agra and Jaipur Traditions is a translation of an original work written in Marathi. The author, with his deep knowledge and insight of Agra and Jaipur gayakis, has done a detailed comparative study of these two gayakis which is a first in the history of critical writings on music. He touches upon various topics like raga swarupa, layatatva, layakari, bandish, sargam with reference to singing, the importance of words in music and the importance of literature.
PT. SHRIKRISHNA (BABANRAO) HALDANKAR, is known in the music field as a renowned performer, a creative composer, a thought provoking writer, an academician and an accomplished guru. He has over three hundred performances to his credit. He is in the process of editing another book on Gwalior, Kirana and Bhendi Bazaar gayakis. He is the founder of `Sajan Milap` and the founder member of `Ragashree`, two organizations dedicated to encouraging the upcoming artistes and to promoting the guru-shishya parampara.PADMAJA PUNDE (co-translator), an accomplished Hindustani Classical vocalist, learnt music for fifteen years under Ustad Khadim Hussain Khan. She is a recipient of the Bhulabhai Memorial Institute`s scholarship for music and the Katha Award for translating fiction.
