Abu L Falzl was the Wazir (prime minister) and historian of the Mogul Emperor Akbar from 1551. Akbar Nama, originally written in Persian, is a complete history of the reign of Akbar. Akbar (1542-1605) the third Mogul emperor of India, is considered one of the greatest Indian rulers.

Akbar's reign was noted for good government and a flourishing cultural life. He reformed the army, the civil service, and the collection of taxes and encouraged patronage of the arts. Akbar promoted tolerance in religion and encouraged religious debate. By the time Akbar died in 1605, his kingdom included most of the Indian subcontinent, Baluchistan, and Afghanistan.
