The book comprises two parts part I deals with the socio-historical aspects of family of the Vedic Seer Bharadvaja and Part II discusses the significant contribution the family has made to the various fields of Indian culture.Part I is divided into five chapters each comprising more than one section. The first chapter considers the textual evidences of the Vedic Samhitas the Brahmanas the Upanisads and the Ramayana in regard to the Bharadvajas. the second chapter traces the birth and parentage of Bharadvaja the progenitor and his relation with the gods, seers, kings and other persons.
Dr. Thaneswar Nilakantha Sarmah was born at a remote village in the district of Nalbari in Assam in 1944. He graduated with Honours in Sanskrit from Pragjyotish College Guwahati in 1967. He executed his post Graduate studies in Sanskrit-Pali as a national scholar in the centre of Advanced study in Sanskrit (CASS) University of Poona, during 1968-70 and carried his research work as a teacher fellow under the faculty improvemnt scheme sponsored by UGC during 1977-80 int eh CASS, University of Poona where he worked under the guidance of Dr. Keshav Panduranga Jog, Dr. Sarmah was awarded Ph.D. for his thesis entitled "The Bharadvajas in Ancient India" in 1982.
