Our bodies are quite miraculous. No machine has been constructed that can take over even a portion of a natural body function as effectively. By capitalizing on students natural curiosity about themselves, the author has strived to make physiology a subject that they can enjoy learning. Even the most tantalizing subject matter, however, can become drudgery to study and difficult to comprehend if not effectively presented. Therefore, this book has a logical, understandable format that is unencumbered by unnecessary details and that emphasizes how each concept is an integral part of the whole subject matter the text focuses on the mechanisms of body function from cells to systems, organized around the central theme of homeostasis--how the body meets changing demands while maintaining the internal constancy necessary for all cells and organs to function. The text is writtens with its primary target audience--undergraduate students preparing for health-related careers--in mind.
