This is very curious work about the origin and growth of Indian feudalism in India from Maurya to 650 AD. This debate deals with the political, economic and social formation with special reference to feudalism. How Indian feudalism different from western feudalism. this book carries various early as well as current debates to look into feudalism. Chauhan clearly defines the nature of land grants and Suzerain-Vassal relationship at that time. he negates the Marxist model on Indian feudalism, as well as Chauhan also questioned the idea of R.S.Sharma's views that Sharma suggested many alternative centuries for the beginning of feudalism in India, ranging from second and first centuries B.C. to third or fourth centuries A.D.(page No. 09. Chauhan). Chauhan traces the routes of Indian Fuedalism from literary as well as epigraphical sources but R.S.Sharma did not convey this idea in his book. Chauhan uses the primary sources to look into the basic concept of origin and growth of feudalism in Indian land. this work is very helpful for current researchers to analysis the current debate on Indian feudalism.
