Le Prataparudriya de Vidyanatha avec le commentaire Ratnapana de Kumarasvamin

The Prataparudriyasobhusana, “ornament to the glory of Prataparudra” or Prataparudriya, is a summary of the ‘science of literary adornments’ (alamkarasastra). Singing the praises of Prataparudra II, the last of the Kakatiya rulers of Warangal, the text was, in all likelihood, composed during the period of his reign, at the turn of the 14th century A.D. Using the traditional method consisting of verse (karika) and gloss (vrtti) for his theoretical treatise, the author, Vidyanatha, also composes an illustration (udaharana) in praise of his royal benefactor. The Prataparudriya became quite well-known, especially in the South of India. It is presented here with the commentary of Kumarasvamin and with a French translation, introduction and notes.
