This is a good book based on valuable research as well as an insight born out of many years of living in India by an American researcher. It also brings the perspective of the foreigner for whom India is a mystery. The language is very simple yet very comprehensive and body leaves nothing for granted. Hence the book is very interesting for those who want to know about the Vedas from scratch. In fact it can be titled 'Vedas for the Dumb'. However a lot of focus and material is devoted to the Law of Karma, Reincarnation and the description of the Universe and its structure which is important in the overall cosmic drama of reward and punishment. However these include very interesting details about the cycle of life and death and how one can 'escape' the law of karma and reincarnation. e.g. Doing everything as an offering to God can help one to escape the cycle of reincarnation. There are few references to the Bible but is usually out of context. Similarly references to the other religious texts such as the Koran and of the Indian religions such as Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism would have helped. Also one notices the heavy leaning towards the Vedic philosophies and as such is not a totally impartial or objective work of research.
