This book contains the collected articles and papers on the Jains of the late Kendall W. Folkert. At the time of his death Folkert was one of the leading scholars on Jainism in the West. The chapters treat various aspects of the Jain tradition: scriptures, monastic praxis, lay-monastic relations, rituals, community, and philosophy. Folkert also dealt extensively with the inherited academic models for the study of the Jains, and the problems posed by those models. Folkert located his studies firmly within the field of comparative religion, so while the chapters deal with information specific to the Jain tradition, they do so from a perspective that will advance the general and comparative study of religion.
