The Wei-shis-san-shih-lun-sung is a Chinese version by Hsuan-tsang the great Chinese scholar and traveller of the Sanskrit text of the Trimsikakarikas of Vasubandhu. The Trimsika sums up the essentials of the Yogacara Vijnanavada school of Buddhist thought in thirty verses. Ten Indian Yogacara teachers including Dharmapala elaborated them in their commentaries on the Trimsika. The book explores the developments and the various implications of the doctrine of Mere-consciousness. It aims at the evaluation and reconstruction of the patterns of Buddhist idealism in India and China from the Sanskrit and Chinese sources of the Yogacara-Vijnanavada. This work is the first comprehensive translation and interpretation of the basic Yogacara-Vijnanavada texts preserved in chinese. Dr. Swati Ganguly was born in 1945 in West Bengal. She obtained two M.A. degree one in sanskrit from the University of Calcutta and the other in Asian Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign U.S.A. She was awarded D. Phil. in sanskrit by the University of Calcutta. Her doctoral dissertation was written in sanskrit language.

Customer Reviews of Treatise in Thirty Verses on Mere-Consciousness
Review by Cynthia J Eppers: Sunday 28 April, 2019
This book is great at helping the reader to understand the 900-page English and Chinese version of Vijnapti-Matrata by Xuanzang (translated by Wei Tat). It is so extensive that it's handy to have a smaller source such as this one to help the reader keep track of the various aspects of consciousness as he wades through the larger text. The average English-speaking person gets confused with all the Sanskrit terms and the Vijnapti-Matrata (AKA Ch'eng Wei Shih Lun) has no glossary or index at all. I find this text helps me keep from constantly looking up terms in my Buddhist Dictionary, the web, etc., which interferes with the fluency of my reading.

GREAT JOB DR. GANGULY!
