Over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic disease-hypertension, chronic
fatigue, migraine headaches, asthma, allergies, arthritis, anxiety, etc.
Unfortunately, modern medicine has not been able to provide complete relief. In
this thoughtfully written book, Dr. Reddy provides a new paradigm for the
origin, progression, and treatment of chronic disease.
Drawing on the wisdom of Maharishi Vedic Medicine, she describes how disease
begins when the body becomes disconnected from its own inner intelligence, and
progresses with unhealthy patterns of eating, thinking, and living. The natural
therapies described here work where modern medicine has failed because they
eliminate disease at its source rather than simply managing symptoms.
Included are case histories from Dr. Reddy patients and scientific studies
that verify this approach.
Maharishi Vedic Medicine is a holistic approach to health that emphasizes
harmony in all aspects of a person's life. Treatments for chronic ailments are
individualized, as this form of Ayurvedic medicine stresses that the person is
treated, not the disease. Although the authors assume some knowledge of the
topic, their thoughtfully written guide presents the concepts in a very readable
style, explaining how to apply them to the treatment of chronic conditions. The
appendix includes information on locating practitioners of Maharishi Vedic
Medicine and a lengthy list of recommended reading. Reddy, an anesthesiologist
and faculty member at Albany Medical College before becoming director of the
Maharishi Vedic Health Center in Bethesda, MD, has written extensively on this
subject, as has Egenes, who teaches at the Maharishi University of Management.
