Architecture is one of the sources for tracing the various aspect of the culture of any region and any period. In India there in no dearth of ancient architecture monuments and literature dealing with the ancient Indian architecture is also available in plenty. The scope of the subject is vast but the present work, in order to get ourselves introduced to the subjects, aims at tracing peculiar characteristic features of different types of architecture that flourished in India in ancient times.

Dr. Malati Mahajan, a retired lecturer from the postgraduate teaching department of Ancient Indian History, culture and Archaeology, of Nagpur University, Nagpur is the student of the same department. She was the recipient of Motilal Nehru centenary award for standing first in order of merit in first division in M.A. examination.She worked as lecturer in the same department and taught History of ancient Indian architecture to the students of M.A. and Travel and Tourism.
