The book presented here in ten chapters and an important Appendix contains not only general surveys of the coin-systems in India but also some studies of important aspects of the coins issued from the 8th or 7th century B.C. down almost to the present times. Some of the interpretative essays apart, compositional excellences of the legends and artistic achievements in the issues have been discussed in extensor.
An additional merit of the book consists in laying before scholars and the lay readers the numismatic contents of the collections of a couple of museums in the form of a Catalogue and a Survey. And in the over-all endeavor, some of the essays included here are reproductions bringing them all under one cover with profuse, though relevant, illustrations to aid the understanding of the information presented or the problems discussed. Herein lays, perhaps, the justification of a fresh treatise of some older studies.
