A great number of Tantric texts were composed in India. In due course it was felt necessary to compile digests or compendia in order to bring together in a single volume the main Tantric practices.
One of the most popular of these compendia is the Mantramahodadhi, written in 1589 by Mahidhara. The text is accompanied by a Tika, entitled Nauka, written by the author himself. There are many manuscripts of the Mantramahodadhi in manuscript collections in India and Europe.
