The International Association for Ladakh Studies (IALS) was formed to provide contacts between all who are interested in the study of Ladakh to organise colloquia and to publish the proceedings and to issue a newsletter Ladakh Studies.
Dr. Henry Osmaston was bron in the Himalayan foothills and has been a forester in Uganda a geographer at Bristol University and a pedigree dairy farmer. His thesis on the Quaternary glaciations of the East African mountains led to similar studies in Ladakh and Tibet.Dr. Nawang Tsering obtained his doctorate at the Punjabi University of Patiala for a thesis on The Yogins of Dzonkhul. He has written a book Buddhism in Ladakh: a study of the life and works of the 189th century saint and works of the 18th century saint and scholar Nawang Tsering (Sterling 1979).
