The book entitled "Thirumurai Thalangalin Deiveega Marangal", deals with the Sacred trees of the Saiva Temples of Tamilnadu. The book elaborate the rich variety of temple trees and the need to preserve them. There are 61 trees worshiped by the people and firstly the quotations from the Tamil Sangam literature about the trees, their eulogisation in the hymns composed by the Saiva Saints, namely, Thirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar are given. The botany of the trees and the methods of propagation are given in detail. The sacred temples and their association with a particular sacred tree vividly explained in ancient legends find a place in the book. Above all the Medical benefits and other general benefits of the temple trees which will be curiously read by people. The need to preserve the trees by the generations to come run as common thread. The famous newspaper "THE HINDU"  dated 22-06-2012 has published an appreciative note about the book. 

 

About the Author:

 

The author, Thiru. K. Sethu subramanian is an Agricultural Graduate and served in various capacities int eh Department of Agriculture of the Government of Tamilnadu. He retired on 29.02.2000. Since then he serves in a religious trust attached to the temple of Lord Nataraja. He is also the President of Sri Gurugnana Sambandar Pani Mandram at Chidambaram. He is the Secretary of the Environment Protection Movement".
