The work exposes the history of Ayurveda, its scientific nature and fundamental principles. This book by Shiv Sharma, although written in 1929, is still considered to be an important work by the specialists. Hence its reprint. Son of the celebrated Vaidya (Hindu doctor) Pandit Ram Prasad, who is the author of Ayurveda Sutra in Sanskrit, Shiv Sharma is also an authority on Ayurveda in his own right.
Author of several books on Ayurveda in English, and formerly senior professor of medicine & toxicology at The Dayanand Ayurvedic College, Lahore, he has, given a lucid interpretation of the whole system of Ayurveda in a brief compass basing his information on such important texts in Sanskrit as Charaka, Sushrutra, Vagbhata and his father’s treatise mentioned above.
As the vast treasure of Ayurveda and the language in which it is written, makes it a sealed book both to the Europeans and Indians, and as there are too few books of Ayurveda in English, Shiv Sharma’s The System of Ayurveda will be welcome today.
