Bhagawan uses 'Monkey Mind' as a metaphor for the mind. For one, mind is as restless and fickle as a monkey and it madly runs after anything that attracts the senses. But, Bhagawan also says that mind is the key to liberation or bondage depending on the direction it turns to. Phyllis Krystal, a psychotherapeutic counsellor from USA, writes on the theme of monkey mind and the ways to control it.
Further she elaborates on the 'Ceiling on Desires' method laid down by Bhagawan, which is worldly man's equivalent of spiritual austerities. If practised devoutly it will help us gain control over the mind and get rid of desires and distractions that bog us down.
