Yoga Nidra is a yogic and scientific technique for clearing deepseated tensions and stresses from not only the body and mind, but also the deep sub-conscious. The practice involves rotation of awareness through the body in a specific order which correlates with nerve centres in the motor homunculus of the brain, thereby inducing the participant into a receptive state of relaxation. In this state, the sub-conscious mind can then be explored via archetypal images, imagination and sensations.
The book contains interesting information on the scientific and psychological aspects of yoga nidra (and our experience of excistence) and numerous excellent Yoga Nidra practices and practice suggestions.
The book is a fascinating read, and if you can convince someone to put the correct effort into reading the Yoga Nidra practices to you (it is difficult to lead yourself through a Yoga Nidra practice) or perhaps if you record your own voice on a tape, you will have a really useful tool for opening your mind and finding deep relaxation in the fascinating universe which exists within the universe of your body.
