Prana is a Sanskrit word that has many profound meanings. The word is composed of two parts - pra = foreword or before, and ana = breath. What is before breath? Life is before breath and is the cause of breath. One synonym of prana in Sanskrit is Ayur. Prana and Ayur also mean soul (Jiva) and are responsible to hold the soul into the body. Nothing can exist before prana.
Prana is the life-force that vitalizes everything in the universe. All systems of natural medicine and healing are based upon an understanding of how to keep this life force in balance. Atreya, in this book examines the nature of Prana and its functions in body and mind including its relationships with the chakras. He combines yogic techniques to provide a step-by-step guide to maintaining physical and mental balance. Reviews:
I would recommend this book to both the beginner and advanced study of Yoga, Ayruveda, Prana and Energy. Atreya teaches some very simple techniques that are easy to do, and yield wonderful results. Energy Cleansing, breathing, charging your hands, and sharing energy with a partner are the techniques I practice the most. I have read a great deal of books on this and similar subjects. Wicca, Yoga, Taoist exercises, Tantra, and various "modern" books but I've found the largest collection of energy exercises here. All of them are easy to perform and work better than any others I've tried. I recommend this book to anyone interested in self healing! - A reader
I lived with Atreya for many years in India and can personally attest to his sincere and precise passion for the study and practice of Ayurveda. This is just one of the books that arises out of his years of practical experience of bringing joy, health and healing to his friends and clients around the world. Atreya has studied with some great teachers and has nurtured that guidance with daily practice and experience. Prana has long been one of his favorite aspects of Ayurveda and I am thankful that he has created this great book for us. - A Reader
This book is deceptively easy to read and its drawings are equally deceptive due to their being amateurish. I say that it is deceptive because the information in this book is priceless and a wonderful addition to anyone working with energy. I learned a lot that I could apply to both my Reiki and Qigong practices as well as my yoga. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in exploring the more subtle implications of energy work. - Satia Renee Testman "satia" - Atlanta USA
